Hard Rock Cafe

Glasgow

Do Architecture

The cafe occupies the Class A Listed New Athenaeum Theatre. Sadly, the building had recently fallen into very poor repair. Water penetration was in danger of destroying the remaining original features – including a very rare mosaic floor at first floor level and the ornate ceiling of the original theatre space at ground floor of the building.

Fuse Studios in Leeds were the lead designer, a great bunch of people, with a mix of good humour and great design, together with Do Architecture and the client Hard Rock themselves made this project Rock!! Strangely the Hard Rock guys really are a like their product, good fun to be with and experts in their field, we had a few good nights out with Rick of Hard Rock and the Fuse team during the contract.

Work started on site in July as we had prepared the construction drawings in record time whilst the statutory applications were being determined. The cafe opened for business 16 weeks later on November 19th 2013 – just over a year after the design team was assembled for the project. It has been a remarkable success, exceeding all the commercial forecasts - so much so that we are now making a second set of applications for further works to the back of house and first floor function area to help the venue cope with the extraordinarily high level of business it is experiencing.
